1. Introduction

Zeroth ("we," "us," or "our") operates XPLR, a social campground discovery and outdoor exploration mobile application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our app. Please read this policy carefully. By using XPLR, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

2. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Name and username
  • Email address
  • Password (stored in hashed form — we never store plaintext passwords)
  • Profile bio and profile photo
  • Avatar preferences (color, image)

If you sign in through Apple Sign-In or Google Sign-In, we receive your name and email address (or a relay email, in the case of Apple) from those services. We do not receive or store your Apple or Google account passwords.

Location Data

With your permission, we collect your device's GPS coordinates while you are actively using the app. Location data is used to:

  • Show campgrounds, rest areas, truck stops, and public lands near you
  • Calculate distances between you and points of interest
  • Tag the location of your check-ins
  • Determine whether you are within public land boundaries

We only access your location when the app is in the foreground and you have granted location permission. You can revoke location access at any time through your device's settings.

Photos and Media

With your permission, XPLR accesses your device camera and photo library so you can:

  • Upload photos for check-ins and spot submissions
  • Set a profile photo

Photos you upload are stored on our cloud infrastructure (Amazon Web Services S3). We do not access your camera or photo library without your explicit permission.

User-Generated Content

We store content you create within the app, including:

  • Check-ins (location, timestamp, notes, photos, ratings)
  • Spots you create (name, description, type, location, amenities)
  • Posts and comments
  • Custom maps and collections
  • Trip plans

Gamification and Activity Data

XPLR includes a points system (XP) that tracks your engagement. We record XP earned from activities such as checking in, uploading photos, and creating spots. We also maintain leaderboard rankings (weekly, monthly, and all-time).

Subscription Information

If you subscribe to XPLR Pro, your subscription is processed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. We do not collect or store your payment card details. We receive confirmation of your subscription status from RevenueCat, our subscription management provider, so we can grant access to Pro features.

Device and Usage Data

We automatically collect certain technical information, including:

  • IP address
  • User agent (device type, operating system)
  • Session tokens and authentication data

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide and maintain the core app functionality (maps, discovery, check-ins, social features)
  • Show nearby campgrounds, rest areas, and public lands based on your location
  • Display your profile and content to other users as part of the social experience
  • Process and manage XPLR Pro subscriptions
  • Maintain the XP system and leaderboards
  • Enable social features such as following other users and liking posts
  • Respond to support requests
  • Improve and develop the app

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate XPLR. Each service receives only the data necessary for its function:

  • We do not sell your personal data.
  • We share data with the third-party services listed above solely to operate the app.
  • User-generated content (spots, check-ins, posts, and maps marked as public) is visible to other XPLR users as part of the app's social functionality.
  • We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to valid legal requests by public authorities.

6. Data Retention

We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we permanently delete all associated data, including your profile, check-ins, posts, photos, XP data, and any other content you created. This deletion is irreversible.

7. Your Rights and Controls

You have the following controls over your data:

  • Edit your information — Update your name, email, bio, and profile photo at any time in the app's settings.
  • Delete your account — Permanently delete your account and all associated data from Settings > Delete Account.
  • Control location access — Grant or revoke location permissions through your device's settings at any time.
  • Control camera and photo access — Grant or revoke camera and photo library permissions through your device's settings.
  • Block other users — Prevent specific users from interacting with you.

If you are a resident of the European Economic Area, you may have additional rights under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), including the right to access, correct, or request deletion of your data. Contact us at support@goxplr.app to exercise these rights.

If you are a California resident, you may have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). Contact us at support@goxplr.app to exercise these rights.

8. Location Data

Your location data is collected only when the app is actively in use and you have granted permission. We use location data exclusively for the purposes described in Section 2 (showing nearby places, calculating distances, tagging check-in locations, and public land boundary checks). We do not share your location data with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes.

9. Children's Privacy

XPLR is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal data from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@goxplr.app.

10. Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including:

  • All data transmitted between the app and our servers is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS
  • Passwords are hashed before storage — we never store plaintext passwords
  • Authentication tokens are stored in your device's secure storage (OS-level encryption)
  • Access to our infrastructure is restricted and monitored

While we strive to protect your information, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Your continued use of XPLR after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
